Original paintings and painted pieces in Markham
Sans Souci is a small gallery in Markham that shows the work of one painter, Sergei Troshin. Every painting, table and glass here is an original, and each exists once.
On the left is Whisper, from 2025: mixed media on panel, 32.7 × 42.9 in.
Where in Markham is the gallery?
In Thornhill, on its Markham side. Thornhill sits between Steeles Avenue and Highway 7, and Yonge Street divides it: the western part belongs to Vaughan, the eastern part to Markham, as the Wikipedia entry on Thornhill sets out.
So for anyone in Unionville, Milliken, Cornell or Markham Village, the gallery is in your own city, in its south-west corner, just north of the Toronto line. Coming down from the next town? Our page on the gallery for Richmond Hill visitors has the route.
Seven years of work you can see in one visit
The catalogue runs from 2019 to 2026. Here is one available work from each of those years that has one, with the size and materials its own page records. Open every available work to choose before you come.
Is it only paintings?
No. The same hand paints furniture and glass, and these pieces sit in the room with the paintings. They are kept together under furniture and home accents.

A table and a glass
Decorative Side Table 1 is a round table whose top is painted and textured in brown and gold line, on three tapered legs. It is one of several painted tables in the catalogue.
The wine glass is painted all over, stem and foot included, in mint, orange and red over purple, then sealed with varnish. There are three of them, each different.
Seeing art in Markham
Markham has a public art museum: the Varley Art Gallery at 216 Main Street Unionville, opened in May 1997 and named after Frederick Varley of the Group of Seven. It changes its exhibitions through the year.
A gallery where the work can go home with you
At Sans Souci the walls hold one painter's catalogue, and the works carry a status: available, sold or in a private collection. If something you like has already gone, ask about commissioning a painting in a similar spirit. Visitors rate the gallery 5.0 from 7 Google reviews.
